Internal linking is still the most underrated SEO lever
Every time I audit a startup’s site, internal linking is a mess. Not wrong, just… nonexistent.
Blog posts link to nothing. Product pages link only to pricing. The homepage links everywhere but nothing links back.
Here’s what good internal linking does:
- Spreads authority from strong pages to weak pages
- Helps Google understand topic relationships
- Creates obvious user journeys
- Makes your site feel intentional
The simplest approach:
- Find your strongest pages (check Search Console for impressions)
- Add 2-3 contextual links from those pages to pages you want to rank
- Use descriptive anchor text (not “click here”)
Do this consistently and watch rankings shift.
I added 15 internal links to a client’s top 10 posts last month. Average position improved by 3.2 across the linked pages within 6 weeks.
It’s not magic. It’s just structure.
